Within the frame work of the project (job creation for youth and women through the improvement of the business environment and SMEs competitiveness in Jordan) under the name (LevelUP – Advancing Jordanian Industries ) funded by the Italian agency for development cooperation (AICS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply of Jordan (MITS) and implemented by United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Jordan.

A training course on indicators of industry and trade competitiveness for country diagnosis was conducted by the industrial competitiveness expert Andrea Antonelli between 29th June – 1st July at MITS in Amman, Jordan.

The training was the first planned capacity building activity to strengthen analytical capacities in Jordan. And it is considered as the first step to coach a task force at MITS and Chambers of Industry to produce the first Jordan Industrial Competitiveness Report (JICR) and other relevant analysis for evidence-based policy-making. The project aims to increase Jordan’s private sector contribution to job creation and economic inclusion of youth and women by supporting the development of competitive SMEs.

The first component of the project aims at strengthening current Jordan’s industrial sector information system by establishing an Industrial Observatory (IO), centralizing relevant and available industrial data, and at strengthening industrial intelligence functions at MITS and Chambers of Industry, through capacity building for producing relevant analysis that can feed into concrete recommendations aimed at industrial policy action.
